Inexpensive Water Filtration System

Inexpensive Water Filtration System

Our friend, Kirk told us about the Sawyer water filtration system (pictured above). Traditionally, we had heard about the Katadyn.  It seemed so expensive and hard to maintain.  The cylinders seem to cost as much as the original system, and we were going for three years.

So, when Kirk told us about the gravity system that you can easily put in your suitcase and then adapt to a locally bought bucket, that sounded better to us.  We also brought two plastic water storage containers we got from Wal Mart.  One was for brushing teeth in the bathroom and one was for the kitchen.  We could just hook the water filtration systems to the containers and fill it as needed.

You should check out Sawyer's products if you are a camper, paranoid about end times, or city water.   Or, if you live in a place where there is unclean water.  There is something for everyone on the website.

Also, my husband was thrilled with the degree of filtration (it even filters out viruses) because he always has the goal of zero diarrhea and stomach bugs when going overseas. If it wasn't so gross, I would get him a t-shirt that says that because it's his motto every time!

Here's a quote from their website.

"Filtering and purifying up to 170 gallons of clean water per day, the Sawyer Point ZeroTwo Bucket Purification System is an ideal addition to your emergency preparedness kit for use during disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. It’s also great for adventure travel where potable tap and bottled water are not easily carried or safe to drink.

With its 0.02 micron absolution filtration, the Point ZeroTwo goes one step beyond Sawyer’s MINI and Point ONE filters to remove 99.997% of viruses in addition to 99.99999% of bacteria and 99.9999% of protozoa/cysts.

This powerful, lightweight Purification System has an output of 1 liter per minute when used as a gravity system with a bucket (not included) — no pumping, chemicals, or electricity required. It also comes with a faucet adapter."
